All you need to know before getting rhinoplasty in South Korea

Frequently Asked Questions

Why South Korea is a smart choice for patients looking for rhinoplasty?

South Korea performs approximately 25% of all cosmetic surgeries worldwide, giving its surgeons a level of technical mastery and volume that is virtually unmatched anywhere on earth.

South Korea has the highest density of board-certified plastic surgeons globally for a population of 51 million. The concentration in Gangnam alone means elite specialists competing at the highest level.

Over 114,000 foreign patients travel to South Korea each year for aesthetic surgery. Korean hospitals are purpose-built for international visitors. Though glamjet.com.au, you'll have English-speaking coordinators and VIP services.

When a surgeon has performed thousands of rhinoplasties across every ethnic structure, every skin type, every revision complexity, they develop mastery that no generalist can replicate regardless of price.

Glamjet.com.au connect international patients with the best experts in rhinoplasty. Our surgeons are board-certified plastic surgeons with 15-30+ years of experiences performing 2,000-8,000 successful procedures.

Australians, American and New Zealand passport holders can enter South Korea visa-free for up to 90 days for cosmetic surgeries. Incheon International Airport (ICN) connects to all major cities in Australia, New Zealand, and the USA.

Is it safe to have a rhinoplasty in South Korea?

Yes. Glamjet.com.au exclusively work with government-accredited hospitals and clinics in Seoul and Incheon, South Korea. Our surgeons are board-certified plastic surgeons with a minimum 15 years of rhinoplasty specialisation. South Korea has some of the strictest medical regulation in the world and is the global leader in cosmetic surgery by procedure volume.

Do I need a visa to travel to South Korea from Australia, the USA, or New Zealand?

No. Australian, New Zealand, and American citizens can enter South Korea visa-free for up to 90 days, which is more than sufficient for a facelift holiday. The K-ETA electronic travel authorisation may be required depending on your nationality. Glamjet team can help you check this during planning.

How long do I need to stay in South Korea after a rhinoplasty?

You'll need to arrive 2-3 days before your rhinoplasty surgery to have health assessment and face-to-face consultation with surgeon. After that, you'll need to stay 7-12 days after surgery. Once the stitches are removed you can return home the next day. If you have a simple case, you can plan for 10-12 days. If you are having a complex rhinoplasty surgery and revision, please plan for 14 days. This allows for your pre-surgery consultation, the procedure, initial recovery, stitch removal, and final follow-up before flying. Glamjet team will inform you on your personalised plan.

Will a rhinoplasty disrupt my daily life? What's the realistic recovery like?

Yes, you should plan for a restful recovery period. Planning well with glamjet.com.au is exactly what makes it manageable. Here's what to realistically expect:

With rhinoplasty, you do not need to be hospitalised. After surgery, you'll be moved to recovery ward to rest and be monitored until you are safe to be discharged to hotel. Our translator will be here with you for 2-3 hours and send you to hotel. If you need to stay longer, we can book our translator to stay longer from A$350/4 hours.

You'll walk to the clinic/hospital for check up the next day. Nurse will change gauges and clean the stitches for you. We can arrange a basic hair-wash.

In the first week, swelling, bruising, and a sensation of tightness are normal and expected. We'll schedule post-operation appointments (red light & hyperbaric oxygen) to help reduce the swelling. After 2-3 days, most patients were able to go for light sightseeing and walking. After 5th day of surgery, most patients can go shopping and start exploring as normal. Walking is encouraged to promote lymphatic drainage.

The nose pack can be removed 5-7 days after surgery. Stitches are removed 5-10 days after surgery depends on complexity and your individual healing progress.

You're probably asking when you can fly home from South Korea after rhinoplasty. Most patients can have final stitch removals on day 7th or 12th after surgery. You can fly home after that.

By weeks two, the majority of visible bruising has resolved and most patients are comfortable in public with light makeup.

Strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, alcohol, and smoking should be avoided for four to six weeks.

The reason Glamjet recommends a stay of minimum 10-14 days in South Korea is specifically to cover this early recovery window properly, with your surgeon available for follow-up appointments before you fly home.

Returning to home too early, as some patients attempt when booking independently, significantly increases risk and stress. Your comfort and safety are always the priority.

Will you provide a translator in Seoul?

Yes. Glamjet provides a dedicated English-speaking coordinator who accompanies you to consultation and surgery.

How does the quality of Korean rhinoplasty surgeons compare to the Australia and the USA?

The surgeons we partner with attract patients from the United States, Europe, and the Middle East not because surgery is less expensive in Seoul, but because the expertise simply does not exist at this level anywhere else.

When a surgeon has performed thousands of rhinoplasties across every ethnic structure, every skin type, every revision complexity, they develop mastery that no generalist can replicate regardless of price.

Many of Glamjet's surgeons are members of ISAPS and ASPS (the American Society of Plastic Surgeons). You don't have to worry about safety or quality because Glamjet only works with the best surgeons in the industry.

Can I combine rhinoplasty with skincare procedures or other surgery in South Korea?

Yes. It's one of the biggest advantages of travelling to Seoul.

For plastic surgery, Glamjet work with amazing South Korean surgeons specialising in:

  • Neck lift: to address jowls and loose neck skin simultaneously
  • Neck muscle tie in addition to neck list: to remove deep fat and tighten weaken muscles around neck to create more defined jawline that neck lift (lifting skin alone) would not be able to achieve
  • Upper blepharoplasty (upper eyelid surgery) to refresh the upper eye area, smooth out wrinkles
  • Sub-brow lift: shorten space between upper eyelid and brow, tie up weak eye muscles
  • Fat grafting: to restore lost facial volume and avoid a hollow, over-lifted look
  • Endoscopic forehead lift with endotine: lift forehead, smooth forehead wrinkles, lift droopy brows. If you have too big forehead, forehead reduction can be done at the same time
  • Laser skin resurfacing for texture and tone improvement
  • Stem cells therapy to improve skin quality and regenerate from within.

Combining procedures in one surgery reduces total cost, recovery time, and anaesthesia exposure compared to staging them separately in Australia.

Each surgeon and clinic will have their own policies of how many procedures can be done safely in one surgery for patients' safety.

If you want to get a VIP package to have everything done, they may need to be spread over two days.

What if something goes wrong after I return to Australia?

Let's talk honestly about aftercare because your transformation journey doesn't end when your plane touches down in Australia.

The Solo Journey Reality

If you book directly with an overseas clinic, post-treatment support often means navigating time zones, language barriers, and endless email chains while managing any concerns alone. It's like trying to solve a puzzle with half the pieces missing and the instructions in another language.

The Glamjet Difference: You're Never Alone

With Glamjet, you have a dedicated Australian advocate who speaks both languages. Plus, something most people don't realise: we have staff on the ground in South Korea.

When you choose us, here's what actually happens:

  • One email to us, we handle everything: No chasing overseas clinics or waiting anxiously for replies
  • Our Korean staff can physically visit your clinic to ensure fast action
  • Fast tele-health consultations arranged with your treating specialist
  • Medical translation of all notes and instructions into clear, actionable steps
  • We can book nurse care in Australia to do wound cleaning for you (from $150/appointment)
  • 24/7 peace of mind knowing someone who understands your entire medical journey is just a message away

The Business Reality: Why Our Clients Get Priority

Here's something we don't often talk about, but you deserve to know. Glamjet sends many international clients to our partner clinics.

Think about it from the clinic's perspective. Would you risk disappointing or avoiding a business partner who consistently brings you clients? As a clinic owner seeing Glamjet clients regularly, maintaining our relationship isn't just good business, it's essential to their success.

This means when we call about your care, we don't get put on hold. We get the clinic director. Issues are resolved promptly. You're not just another international patient; you're a Glamjet client, and that carries weight.

Additional Protection: Medical Travel Shield

For complete peace of mind, we partner with Medical Travel Shield insurance. This covers transportation costs back to South Korea for any additional treatment needed for both you and a companion. It's like having a safety net under your safety net.

Our Track Record Speaks Volumes

In all our years of operation, we've never had any medical complication.

This isn't luck. It's the result of:

  • Meticulously planned journeys
  • Partnerships with accredited hospitals and clinics
  • Working exclusively with specialists we'd trust with our own families
  • The leverage of being a valued, high-volume partner
  • Comprehensive pre-treatment assessments that identify potential issues before they become problems

Can I use my superannuation to pay for rhinoplasty?

Patients maybe able to have life-changing treatments funding if it's seriously affecting quality of life and mental health. This can be yours or your partner or parents. Please fill in our consultation form, our partner Access My Super can guide you through the process. Our clients have reduced application fee from $1,800 AUD to $1,200 AUD. You can also apply yourself but process is more complicated. We do not provide quotes in Australia by Australian practitioner. You'll need to get the documents yourself and we provide quotes from our surgeons overseas. Therefore, we recommend using service of Access My Super.

Is rhinoplasty painful?

Most patients describe a rhinoplasty as surprisingly manageable in terms of pain. Discomfort is typically at its peak on the day of surgery and the following 24–48 hours, during which your medical team administers pain relief via injection and oral medication. After the first few days, most patients transition to standard over-the-counter pain relief and describe the sensation more as tightness, pressure, and sensitivity than acute pain. Glamjet's patient advocates check in with you daily during your recovery stay in South Korea, so if pain management needs adjusting, your clinic is notified immediately. Due to drug regulations, our clinics and hospitals cannot disclose which pain medications will be used to prevent drug abuses. Rest assured, stronger medication can be arranged if you need. Feel free to bring your pain medication from home to South Korea.

How many days will I have nose pack after rhinoplasty in South Korea?

Nose packing (nasal packing) or internal splints are worn after rhinoplasty primarily support the newly structured, fragile tissues, control bleeding, and prevent complications. Our surgeons in South Korea often recommend having nose pack between 5-7 days after surgery.

Key Reasons for Wearing Nose Pack After Rhinoplasty:

  • Controlling Bleeding (Hemostasis): The packing acts as a pressure dressing, applying gentle, constant pressure inside the nasal cavity to minimise bleeding and absorb any blood or fluid that drains.
  • Supporting Internal Structure: After the nose has been reshaped, packing provides essential support to the septum, cartilage, and soft tissues, keeping them stable in their new positions.
  • Preventing Complications: It helps prevent the formation of a septal hematoma (a blood clot between the layers of the septum), which can lead to infection or damage to the cartilage. It also prevents tissue adhesion (scar tissue sticking together).
  • Minimising Swelling: The pressure from the pack can reduce excessive swelling inside the nasal passages

The outcome of surgery highly depends on surgeon's experience and expertise and how they perform in the operating room. The length of time a compression band is worn does not directly affect the results. Some of our surgeon only require the compression band to be worn for 1 day.

Can I take herbal supplements to assist with healing of rhinoplasty?

This is a question Glamjet's team gets asked often, and it deserves an honest answer.

Before surgery, all herbal supplements must be stopped. No exceptions. Many commonly used supplements including fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, garlic, ginger, turmeric, and St John's Wort have blood-thinning or anti-coagulant properties that can significantly increase bleeding risk during and after surgery. Your surgeon will advise you on exactly how far in advance to stop, but as a general rule most supplements should be ceased at least two weeks before your procedure date.

After surgery, our surgeons are not in a position to advise on herbal supplements. This isn't a limitation of their surgical expertise. It's an honest reflection of where the science currently stands. There is simply not enough robust clinical research to confirm the efficacy or safety of most herbal supplements in a post-surgical healing context, and responsible medical professionals won't recommend something they cannot stand behind with evidence.

If you want to explore whether specific supplements may support your recovery, the right person to consult is a naturopath or integrative health practitioner ideally one who is aware you have recently undergone surgery and can review your full health picture. Any supplements taken after your facelift are taken at your own discretion and risk, and we'd always encourage that conversation to happen with a qualified professional rather than based on general advice found online.

What is well-supported by evidence for optimal healing: staying well hydrated, eating a nutrient-rich diet with adequate protein, avoiding alcohol and smoking, protecting your skin from sun exposure, and following your surgeon's post-operative care instructions precisely. These fundamentals will do more for your recovery than any supplement.

When will I see my final rhinoplasty results?

You'll notice an immediate visible change after surgery. However, swelling continues to shift and settle for several months, so what you see at week two is not your final result. Most patients see their results stabilise at around the six to nine month mark, with the final, settled outcome fully visible by nine months. Think of it less as a snapshot and more as a slow reveal. Each week you look a little more like the most confident version of yourself.

Will do I have to do revision?

Glamjet' surgeons are revision experts. When you have your first nose surgery with them, you reduce your risk to have to do revision.

With well-performed rhinoplasty, you won't need to do revision unless your appearance changes with aging years later (sagging skin and bone loss).

If you have surgery elsewhere and do not have satisfactory result, rhinoplasty revision is typically performed twelve to 18 months after the initial surgery, allowing swelling to fully subside and scar tissue to soften. While some corrections might occur around 4–6 months, waiting at least a year is standard to ensure the nose has fully settled and for a reliable assessment.

Key Reasons for Revision:

  • Functional issues: Difficulty breathing or structural issues, which may warrant faster intervention.
  • Unsatisfactory cosmetic results: Including persistent asymmetry, "polly-beak" deformity, a pinched tip, or a crooked bridge.

It is essential to consult with a qualified surgeon to evaluate your specific case and healing progress before deciding on a revision. Book a consultation with us and we'll help you get your confidence back.

What anaesthesia options are available for a rhinoplasty in South Korea?

Most people researching rhinoplasty focus entirely on the surgeon. Very few think to ask about the anaesthesiologist and yet this is one of the most important safety factors in your entire surgical experience.

Here's what most clinics won't tell you: anaesthesiologists in South Korea are highly paid specialists, commanding fees that rival the surgeon's own. Their role is not administrative. They are actively responsible for keeping you safe throughout the entire procedure, monitoring your vitals, managing sedation depth, and responding to any physiological changes in real time. A great surgeon operating alongside an experienced, dedicated anaesthesiologist is a fundamentally safer surgical team than a great surgeon working without one.

The problem is that smaller or budget clinics often cannot afford a full-time anaesthesiologist on staff. Instead, they bring in freelance practitioners who rotate across multiple clinics. Sometimes the rest of surgical team has never worked with before. In some cases at lower-tier clinics, IV sedation is administered by the surgeon themselves, without a dedicated anaesthesiologist present at all. Patients paying less rarely know this is happening.

When a surgical team works (same surgeon, anaesthesiologist, and nurses) together consistently, day in and day out, they develop a level of coordination and trust that directly translates to safer outcomes for you.

Every Glamjet partner surgeon works with a dedicated, full-time anaesthesiologist as part of their permanent surgical team. This isn't a luxury add-on. It's a non-negotiable standard we require of every facility in our network.

For a rhinoplasty, twightlight sedation is the most common approach. For complex revision surgery and rib cartilage rhinoplasty, general anaesthesia will keep you fully and comfortably asleep while your dedicated anaesthesiologist monitors you throughout.

When you choose Glamjet, you're not just choosing a surgeon. You're choosing a world-class surgical team that works together every single day, in accredited facilities, with every safety role filled by a specialist. That's the standard you deserve.

What do I need to prepare before my rhinoplasty surgery in South Korea?

Preparation starts well before you board your flight regarding finance, insurance, and your health.

Regarding your health, you must discontinue the following at least 2 weeks before surgery, : multivitamins, omega-3 and fish oil, red ginseng, aspirin, blood thinners such as warfarin or heparin, weight-loss medications, isotretinoin (including Roaccutane or Aknekutan), any dermatological prescription drugs, traditional herbal medicines, and all dietary supplements. These substances can significantly increase bleeding risk during surgery and interfere with anaesthesia. Stopping them is non-negotiable, not optional. Importantly, medications for chronic conditions including high blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid disorders, and asthma must be continued as normal. If you take blood pressure or diabetes medication, take your usual morning dose on the day of surgery with a small sip of water. Lastly, you need to keep good health condition before your surgery so you can recover faster after surgery.

Regarding finance, you'll need to:

  • apply for finance if required well in advance. You can read about different financing solutions here for Glamjet' clients. If planning to use super, you'll need to apply with Access My Super

Your Glamjet patient advocate will send you a personalised pre-operative checklist after your surgery booking and well in advance of your surgery so nothing is missed.

How long do I need to fast before my rhinoplasty surgery?

Fasting requirements depend on your anaesthesia type. For general anaesthesia which is standard for a complex rhinoplasty case, you must fast for 8 hours before surgery. For rhinoplasty performed under IV sedation, fasting for 4-5 hours is required. During your fasting window, this means strictly no food, no water, no gum, no candy, and no mints of any kind. Even a small amount of food or liquid can create serious anaesthesia complications, so this instruction must be followed precisely. Your Glamjet team will confirm your surgery time and calculate your fasting start time for you so there's no guesswork the night before.

Do I need to stop drinking alcohol, vaping, and smoking before my rhinoplasty?

Yes. This is one of the most important things you can do to set yourself up for a safe surgery and smooth recovery. Alcohol, vaping, and smoking must be stopped at least one week before surgery. Alcohol thins the blood and increases bleeding risk during the procedure. Smoking restricts blood flow and oxygen delivery to healing tissue, significantly increasing the risk of poor wound healing, infection, and scarring after a facelift. After surgery, smoking, vaping, and drinking alcohol should be avoided for a minimum of four to six weeks. If you're a regular vaper or smoker, your surgeon needs to know. This affects both your surgical plan and your anaesthesia management.

What should I wear and bring to my nose surgery day?

Comfort and practicality are everything on surgery day. Wear loose, soft clothing that opens from the front: a button-down shirt, zip-up hoodie, or loose tracksuit are ideal. Avoid anything that needs to be pulled over your head, as this can disturb dressings and cause discomfort after your procedure. Leave all jewellery, piercings, and metal accessories at your hotel. Remove contact lenses before arriving. Glasses are fine. Do not wear facial makeup, perfume, lotion, body oil, or any hair products on the day of your visit, and do not use hair oils or hair masks when you shower beforehand. Pack sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, a scarf, and a face mask for after surgery. These become your best friends during the first week of recovery when you're out and about in Seoul.

What should I avoid after my rhinoplasty surgery?

The early weeks of recovery are critical for how well and how quickly you heal. After your rhinoplasty, you should avoid alcohol, vaping, and smoking for at least four to six weeks. They impair circulation and dramatically slow the healing process. Avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, running, and swimming for the same period. Do not sleep flat. You should keeping your head elevated on two pillows reduces swelling significantly in the first two weeks. Avoid direct sun exposure on your face and wear SPF50+ whenever you are outdoors, as healing skin is highly vulnerable to UV damage and pigmentation. Do not apply makeup directly over incision sites until your surgeon has cleared this, and follow your post-operative wound care instructions precisely. Do not swim in public pools, bath house for 2 months until the surgical site is fully healed. Your Glamjet patient advocate will provides you with a post-op guide and checks in with you daily during your recovery stay.

Who is not suitable for rhinoplasty surgery in South Korea?

A rhinoplasty is an invasive surgical procedure which means your overall health matters as much as your aesthetic goals.

Before surgery, your clinic will conduct comprehensive pre-operative testing including blood and urine tests, blood pressure measurement, an ECG, chest X-ray, and echocardiography. If any abnormalities are detected, your surgery may be postponed until you receive medical clearance.

Surgery may not be possible if you have uncontrolled high or low blood pressure, heart or cardiovascular disease, lung disease, liver or kidney disease, or other serious chronic medical conditions. Active sexually transmitted infections including syphilis or HIV are also contraindications. Pregnancy and breastfeeding rule out surgery entirely, as does active cancer treatment.

If you are currently experiencing cold symptoms, such as: fever, cough, runny nose, phlegm, or sore throat. Please inform your Glamjet coordinator immediately, as these can complicate general anaesthesia and your surgery may need to be rescheduled.

If you are not sure about your health condition, you can book a health check up in through your local doctor: blood and urine tests, blood pressure measurement, an ECG, chest X-ray, and echocardiography. Then send the results to us to forward to our surgeon.

This will help ensure that you are a good candidate before you invest in travel protecting both your safety and your money.

What happens if my pre-operative tests in South Korea show a problem?

If pre-operative testing carried out in South Korea reveals abnormal results, your surgery will be postponed or cancelled for your safety. This is not a failure. It is the system working exactly as it should. In this situation, your deposit is typically not refunded but can be held and applied to a future surgery date or used toward dermatology treatments at the clinic.

This is precisely why Glamjet conducts health screening conversations with you well in advance of your trip so that any potential contraindications are identified before you travel, not after.

If you have any chronic conditions, allergies, or regular medications, disclose them fully during your initial consultation. There are no wrong answers, only information that helps us keep you safe.

If you are not sure about your health condition, you can book a health check up in through your local doctor: blood and urine tests, blood pressure measurement, an ECG, chest X-ray, and echocardiography. Then send the results to us to forward to our surgeon.

Can I take my regular skincare prescription before rhinoplasty?

Not necessarily. Isotretinoin sold under brand names including Roaccutane and Aknekutan must be stopped at least 7 days before surgery, and some surgeons recommend a significantly longer cessation period as it affects skin healing and tissue integrity. Other dermatological prescription drugs must also be paused. Do not assume that because a medication is skin-related rather than internal it has no surgical implications. Your surgeon needs a complete picture of everything you are taking. If you are unsure whether a specific medication or skincare prescription is safe to continue, raise this during your pre-operative consultation and your Glamjet team will facilitate the conversation with your surgeon in English.

How do I pay for my surgery in South Korea and what do I need to prepare?

Payment logistics are something many patients underestimate when planning surgery overseas, so here is exactly what you need to know before you travel.

If paying by bank card or ATM withdrawal in South Korea, contact your bank before you leave Australia to confirm your card is enabled for international transactions and to raise your daily withdrawal limit. You may need access to the equivalent of AUD A$10,000-$40,000 or more depending on your procedure.

Currency exchange is best done before you arrive at the clinic. Most Korean clinics do not accept foreign currency directly, so you will need Korean Won. Exchange rates fluctuate, so withdraw or exchange a few days before your scheduled payment rather than leaving it to the last minute. No cash discount is offered.

If paying by credit card, contact your provider in advance to confirm international transaction approval and ensure your credit limit covers the full procedure cost. Notify them of the transaction amount and dates to avoid your card being flagged and blocked as a fraud prevention measure. This is a common process and avoidable problem.

Glamjet's concierge fee of AUD $1,200 is paid directly to Glamjet to secure your place and is fully refunded upon completion of your surgery according to our 2026 promotion. Surgery costs are paid directly to your clinic.

For patients who need support with funding, Glamjet works with medical finance providers offering plans from approximately $30 per week.

For eligible Australians, we can connect you with Access My Super to apply for early release of superannuation. Many of our clients have used this pathway successfully to fund their life-changing procedure without impacting their savings. Glamjet' clients will get reduced fees from $1,800 AUD to $1,200 AUD.

What is Glamjet's deposit structure?

Your transformation journey requires two separate deposits. Unless otherwise agreed in writing, a deposit of $1,200AUD for the concierge fee is payable

All our our partner plastic surgery clinics and hospital have their own cancellation policy and their own full refund policy.

Cancellation Within 72 Business Hours:

  • Full day's clinic fees non-refundable (specialists cannot fill your slot)
  • All rendered services non-refundable
  • No deposit recovery possible

Cancellation Before 72 Business Hours:

  • Partial refund possible (minus services already rendered)
  • Clinic deposit refund minus administrative fees
  • Written cancellation required for processing

Why this policy exists? When we book for you to go overseas for surgery, we need to book 2-3 hours of consultation, surgery room, surgeons' time 3-8 hours plus another couple of hours for check up and post-operation care. This is to ensure that you have efficient care within a short amount of time when you travel.

When you cancel within 72 hours, your plastic surgeon loses an entire workday as they cannot secure replacement patients on short notice. This policy protects both the clinic's operation and ensures committed patients receive priority scheduling.

Why are consultation and planning services non-refundable?

Our services involve:

  • Intellectual Property: Years of expertise in medical tourism coordination
  • Time-Based Delivery: Hours spent cannot be recovered
  • Resource Allocation: Staff dedicated exclusively to your case

  • Trip cancellation due to medical emergencies
  • Unexpected travel complications
